And then this Bear, Pooh Bear, Winnie-the-Pooh, F.O.P. (Friend of Piglet's), R.C. (Rabbit's Companion), P.D. (Pole Discoverer), E.C. and T.F. (Eeyore's Comforter and Tail-finder)--in fact, Pooh himself--said something so clever that Christopher Robin could only look at him with mouth open and eyes staring, wondering if this was really the Bear of Very Little Brain whom he had know and loved so long.

the new yorker

Seattle was the first time I had to answer "New York" to the question "Where are you from?"
Before getting married, I would answer "Boston, but I live in NY," or some other confused hodgepodge that threw in Chicago too, depending on my mood...
Since we got married, we've been to Boston, where everyone knows where I''m from and asks "Where are you living?" to which I have much less trouble saying "New York" b/c I am, in fact, living here... We also went to our friendly local Bergers in Buffallo, but there most questions centered on our connection to Zev, and hence on Chicago, not New York. (Once the Chicago connection was established, the questions "where are you from?" and "where are you living now?" got asked separately...)
But in Seattle, I couldn't give my Boston Shpiel, b/c Oren's not from Boston and we were usually being asked as a unit. I settled into an answer that partitioned "originally" and "now" for both of us, but still, to be "from" New York. I don't know if I can handle that...

Yeah, I usually say, "I live in New York now, but I grew up in Boston." I can't really say "Boston" first in response to "Where are you from?" After I say, "I live in New York now, but I grew up in Boston," people often say, "Oh, do you go home a lot?" to which I have to say, "No, my parents moved to Israel."

Sometimes it's better if they don't ask.

Do you consider New York to be home now?
